The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre aims to ensure all those seeking asylum in Australia have their human rights upheld and receive the support they need to live independently in this country.
For those lucky enough to be born and raised in countries free of conflict, it's hard to imagine the difficulty facing people who flee their homes in search of a better, safer life for themselves and their families.
The process of being granted asylum can take many frustrating years and asylum seekers face an uncertain future, waiting for legal recognition.
For Kon Karapanagiotidis, the Melbourne-based lawyer who founded the ASRC in 2001, it all started with a simple vision.
‘I wanted to create a place of hope and welcome where no one was turned away. A centre that stood for justice, that was willing to be at the coalface when and where it mattered for people. Where dreams of freedom burned brightly in the hearts of all who entered.’
